How To Make Pickled Herring Recipe
A classic Scandinavian dish with a tangy and sweet flavor.

Ingredients
- 1 lb pickled herring fillets
- 1 cup white vinegar
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup fresh dill, chopped
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 4 slices rye bread
- Pickled vegetables, for serving (optional)
Instructions

Rinse the pickled herring fillets under cold water and pat dry.

In a small saucepan, combine the white vinegar, white sugar, water, onion slices, chopped dill, and black pepper. Bring to a boil and stir until the sugar dissolves.

Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.

In a sealable container, layer the pickled herring fillets and the cooled pickling liquid.

Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or up to 48 hours.

Serve with slices of rye bread and pickled vegetables, if desired.
