Mulled Wine Recipe

Mulled Wine Recipe

Spice up your holiday tradition with a warm glass of mulled wine. It’s a concoction of wine and various spices that helped the Romans survive the chilly weather. Although, the Greeks managed to make their own mulled wine even before the Romans. In earlier times, people made mulled wine from leftover wine by adding in spices and heating them up. In addition, this drink became famous in the Middle Ages after being rumored to have many health benefits. After that, this comforting drink is always present in seasonal gatherings and festivities.

As a matter of fact, you can say this is an adult version of hot chocolate. But, the twist is we’re replacing cocoa with a bottle of bold red wine. Quality and price wouldn’t matter in a mulled wine so save the best bottle for another occasion. Additionally, star anise adds a sweet and spicy flavor to the wine, mellowing the complex taste. Similarly, white wine provides sweeter notes as compared to red wine. It lightens the bitter taste and enhances the flavors of the spices. Moreover, the peppercorn, ginger, and bay leaf bring out a slight punch, giving off the spiced and fruity aroma.
