A classic apple pie with a golden, flaky crust and a sweet, cinnamon-spiced filling.
Serves:
Ingredients
- 2 pre-made pie crusts
- 6 cups sliced apples
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1 egg, beaten
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
-
Roll out one of the pie crusts and place it in a 9-inch pie dish.
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix well.
-
Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust, spreading it evenly.
-
Scatter the butter pieces over the top of the apples.
-
Roll out the second pie crust and lay it over the top of the apple filling.
-
Crimp the edges of the crusts together to seal.
-
Brush the beaten egg over the top of the crust.
-
Cut 3-4 slits in the top of the crust to allow steam to escape.
-
Bake for 50-60 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
-
Let cool for at least 30 minutes before serving.
