How To Make Old Country Buffet Apple Pie

A classic apple pie with a golden, flaky crust and a sweet, cinnamon-spiced filling.

Preparation: 20 minutes
Cooking: 60 minutes
Total: 80 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 pre-made pie crusts
  • 6 cups sliced apples
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg, beaten

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. Roll out one of the pie crusts and place it in a 9-inch pie dish.

  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix well.

  4. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust, spreading it evenly.

  5. Scatter the butter pieces over the top of the apples.

  6. Roll out the second pie crust and lay it over the top of the apple filling.

  7. Crimp the edges of the crusts together to seal.

  8. Brush the beaten egg over the top of the crust.

  9. Cut 3-4 slits in the top of the crust to allow steam to escape.

  10. Bake for 50-60 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.

  11. Let cool for at least 30 minutes before serving.
