How To Make Furr’s Cafeteria’s Chicken Fried Steak
Classic Southern-style chicken fried steak topped with creamy gravy.
Serves:
Ingredients
- 4 cube steaks
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- Vegetable oil
- 3 tbsp butter
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions

In a shallow bowl, mix together 1 cup flour, garlic powder, paprika, 1 tsp salt and 1 tsp black pepper.

In another shallow bowl, whisk together 2 eggs and 1/2 cup milk.

Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Dredge each cube steak in the flour mixture, then dip in the egg mixture and coat again with the flour mixture.

Place the coated steaks in the heated skillet and cook for 4-6 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.

In a separate saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in 3 tbsp all-purpose flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.

Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens and boils.

Reduce heat and let the gravy simmer for a few minutes until it reaches a desired consistency.

Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Serve the chicken fried steak with the gravy spooned on top.
