Preparation: 15 minutes
Cooking: 20 minutes
Total: 35 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, finely chopped
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • ½ cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and rosemary.

  3. Add the cold butter to the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to cut it into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. Stir in the grated cheddar cheese.

  5. Gradually pour in the milk, stirring until the dough starts to come together. Be careful not to overmix.

  6. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times to bring it together.

  7. Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1 inch (2.5 cm) and use a biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits. Place them onto the prepared baking sheet.

  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

  9. Remove from the oven and let the biscuits cool for a few minutes before serving.
