How To Make Duck Ham

Preparation: 20 minutes
Cooking: 2 hours
Total: 2 hours and 20 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 duck breast
  • 2 tbsp of kosher salt
  • 1 tbsp of brown sugar
  • 1 tsp of black pepper
  • 1 tsp of garlic powder
  • 1 tsp of dried thyme

Instructions

  1. Rinse the duck breast and pat dry with paper towels.

  2. In a small bowl, mix together the kosher salt, brown sugar, black pepper, garlic powder, and dried thyme.

  3. Rub the spice mixture evenly all over the duck breast, making sure to coat both sides.

  4. Place the seasoned duck breast in a resealable plastic bag and refrigerate for 24 hours.

  5. After 24 hours, remove the duck breast from the bag and rinse off any excess salt and spices under cold water. Pat dry.

  6. Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).

  7. Place the duck breast on a wire rack set inside a baking sheet. This allows air to circulate and helps the duck to cook evenly.

  8. Roast the duck in the preheated oven for about 2 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).

  9. Remove the duck from the oven and let it rest for about 15 minutes before slicing.

  10. Slice the duck ham thinly and serve as an appetizer or use in other recipes.
