Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef or chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup Madeira wine
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

  2. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, until lightly browned.

  3. Gradually whisk in the broth, Madeira wine, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper.

  4. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low and cook for 30-35 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the gravy thickens.

  5. Remove from heat and let cool completely.

  6. Once cooled, transfer the gravy to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days.

  7. When ready to serve, reheat the gravy in a saucepan over low heat until warmed through, stirring occasionally.
