Ingredients

  • 2 cups beef or chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup Madeira wine
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 onion, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced onion and garlic and sauté until translucent.

  2. Sprinkle the flour over the onion and garlic mixture and cook for a minute, stirring constantly.

  3. Slowly whisk in the broth and Madeira wine, making sure there are no lumps.

  4. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the gravy has thickened.

  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  6. Strain the gravy before serving to remove any lumps or bits of onion and garlic.
