How To Make Cabbage Roll Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1 head of cabbage, chopped
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a large pot of boiling water, blanch the cabbage for 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.

  3. In a separate pan, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain any excess grease.

  4. Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the pan with the ground beef and cook until the onion is translucent.

  5. Stir in the cooked rice, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.

  6. Place half of the cabbage in the bottom of a greased casserole dish. Top with half of the ground beef mixture. Repeat layers.

  7. Cover the casserole dish with aluminum foil and bake for 1 hour.

  8. Remove the foil and sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top. Bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  9. Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving.
