How To Make Easy Okonomiyaki

Who says vegetarians don’t get to enjoy savory meals? A taste of these authentic vegetarian recipes will make you change your mind. So, you just might want to go vegetarian after your first bite.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups shredded cabbage
  • 4 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 4 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Okonomiyaki sauce, for serving
  • Mayonnaise, for serving
  • Bonito flakes, for garnish
  • Aonori (dried seaweed flakes), for garnish
  • Pickled ginger, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine cabbage, bacon, green onions, flour, water, eggs, and soy sauce. Mix well until batter is smooth.

  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. Pour 1/4 of the batter onto the skillet and spread it out into a round shape.

  3. Cook for 4-5 minutes, or until the bottom is golden brown. Flip the okonomiyaki and cook for another 4-5 minutes.

  4. Transfer the cooked okonomiyaki to a serving plate. Repeat with the remaining batter to make 4 okonomiyaki.

  5. Drizzle okonomiyaki sauce and mayonnaise over each pancake. Sprinkle with bonito flakes and aonori. Serve with pickled ginger.
