How To Make Veggie Okonomiyaki

Ingredients

  • 2 cups shredded cabbage
  • 1 cup grated carrots
  • 1 cup chopped green onions
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup okonomiyaki sauce
  • 1/4 cup Japanese mayo
  • 1/4 cup bonito flakes (optional)
  • 1/4 cup dried seaweed flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine cabbage, carrots, green onions, flour, water, eggs, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat.

  3. Scoop 1/4 cup of the vegetable mixture onto the skillet and flatten it into a pancake shape. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, until golden brown.

  4. Repeat with the remaining vegetable mixture, adding more oil to the skillet as needed.

  5. Serve the okonomiyaki hot, drizzled with okonomiyaki sauce and Japanese mayo. Sprinkle with bonito flakes and dried seaweed flakes, if desired.
