How To Make Southern-Style Baked Banana Pudding

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 2 cups vanilla wafers
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, flour, and salt. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth.

  3. Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens and comes to a boil.

  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and whisk in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.

  5. In a 9×9 inch baking dish, layer half of the sliced bananas and half of the vanilla wafers. Pour half of the custard mixture over the layers.

  6. Repeat the layers with the remaining bananas, vanilla wafers, and custard.

  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the pudding is set.

  8. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving warm.
