  • 4 cups of stale bread, cut into cubes
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp of ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup of raisins (optional)
  • vanilla sauce:
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup of sugar
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract


  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish.

  2. In a large bowl, combine the milk, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Whisk until well combined.

  3. Add the bread cubes to the bowl and gently toss to coat them with the milk mixture. Let it sit for 10 minutes, occasionally pressing the bread down with the back of a spoon to soak up the mixture.

  4. If using raisins, sprinkle them evenly over the bread mixture.

  5. Pour the bread mixture into the greased baking dish and spread it out evenly.

  6. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the pudding is set.

  7. While the bread pudding is baking, prepare the vanilla sauce. In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream and sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

  8. Serve the bread pudding warm with a drizzle of vanilla sauce on top.
