Ingredients

  • 4 cups black raspberries
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9-inch baking dish.

  2. In a large bowl, combine the black raspberries, sugar, cornstarch, and lemon juice. Gently toss until well coated.

  3. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.

  5. Add the cold butter to the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter or your hands to cut it in until it resembles coarse crumbs.

  6. Gradually add the milk to the flour mixture, stirring just until the ingredients are combined and a soft dough forms.

  7. Drop spoonfuls of the dough evenly over the black raspberry mixture.

  8. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.

  9. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.

  10. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired.
