Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup cherries, pitted and halved
  • 1 cup dark chocolate, melted
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add in the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.

  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan. Arrange the cherry halves on top of the batter.

  6. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

  7. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

  8. In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream until just simmering. Remove from heat and pour over the melted dark chocolate. Stir until smooth and shiny.

  9. Place the cooled cake on a serving platter. Spread the chocolate glaze evenly over the top of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.

  10. Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour to allow the glaze to set.

  11. Serve and enjoy!
