Serves:
Ingredients
- 1 large head of cabbage
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup cooked rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
- 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage head and place the whole head in the boiling water. Cook for about 5 minutes, or until the outer leaves start to soften. Remove the cabbage from the pot and let it cool slightly.
-
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, cooked rice, onion, garlic, thyme, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
-
Gently separate the softened cabbage leaves and lay them flat. Spoon a portion of the ground beef mixture onto the center of each leaf. Fold the sides of the leaf over the filling, then roll it up tightly.
-
In a separate bowl, mix together the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, and water. Pour half of the sauce mixture into the bottom of a baking dish.
-
Place the stuffed cabbage rolls seam-side down into the baking dish. Pour the remaining sauce mixture over the rolls.
-
Cover the dish with foil and bake for 1 hour, or until the cabbage rolls are cooked through and the sauce is bubbly.
-
Serve the golabki hot, spooning some of the sauce over each roll.
