Preparation: 10 minutes
Cooking: 20 minutes
Total: 30 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 packages of firm tofu (14 ounces each)
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons ginger, grated
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, for garnish
  • 2 green onions, chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu: Place the tofu on a plate lined with paper towels. Put another layer of paper towels on top and weigh it down with a heavy object, such as a can of beans. Let it press for about 15 minutes to remove excess water.

  2. Cut the tofu: Cut the pressed tofu into 1-inch cubes.

  3. Sear the tofu: Heat the sesame oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the tofu cubes and cook until all sides are golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Transfer the tofu to a plate and set aside.

  4. Prepare the sauce: In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and grated ginger. Cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Stir in the soy sauce, rice vinegar, and honey. Cook for another 2 minutes, until the sauce thickens slightly.

  5. Braise the tofu: Return the cooked tofu to the skillet with the sauce. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes, allowing the tofu to absorb the flavors.

  6. Serve: Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.
