Serves:
Ingredients
- 1.5 lb pork belly, sliced into 1-inch thick pieces
- 1 cup pomegranate juice
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp honey
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp ginger, grated
- 1 tsp five-spice powder
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced (for garnish)
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C).
-
In a bowl, combine pomegranate juice, soy sauce, honey, garlic, ginger, five-spice powder, and black pepper.
-
Heat vegetable oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Add the pork belly slices and sear until browned on all sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
-
Pour the pomegranate mixture and chicken broth over the pork belly in the skillet. Cover the skillet with a lid or aluminum foil.
-
Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and braise the pork belly for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the meat is tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.
-
Remove the skillet from the oven and transfer the pork belly to a serving platter.
-
Place the skillet back on the stovetop over medium heat. Simmer the sauce until it thickens slightly, about 5 minutes.
-
Pour the thickened sauce over the pork belly. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
-
Serve the pomegranate-braised pork belly hot with steamed rice or your favorite side dishes.
