Ingredients
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tbsp sugar
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions

In a large bowl, mix together the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, and sugar.

Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.

Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 375°F.

Using a small cookie scoop or spoon, drop the batter into the hot oil and fry for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.

Remove from the oil with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
