How To Make Joella’s Hot Chicken Recipe

A spicy chicken dish inspired by Nashville’s hot chicken.

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 4 chicken breasts, boneless and skinless
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup hot sauce
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper in a bowl.

  2. In another bowl, mix buttermilk and hot sauce.

  3. Coat chicken in flour mixture, then buttermilk mixture, and then flour mixture again.

  4. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat.

  5. Fry chicken until cooked through and golden brown (about 6-8 minutes per side).

  6. Remove from oil and let cool on a wire rack.

  7. Serve with pickles and bread.
