How To Make Hole Mole’s Tres Leches Cake

Classic Latin American dessert, moist sponge cake soaked in three types of milk and topped with whipped cream and fruit.

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4 eggs, separated
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 1 can evaporated milk
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Fruit for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

  2. In a medium bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.

  3. In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until stiff peaks form.

  4. In another bowl, beat egg yolks and sugar until light and fluffy. Add in whole milk and vanilla extract.

  5. Fold in sifted dry ingredients into egg yolk mixture.

  6. Gently fold in the egg whites until just combined.

  7. Pour batter into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.

  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

  9. While cake is baking, mix together evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, and heavy cream in a bowl.

  10. Once cake is done, allow it to cool for 10 minutes and then poke holes all over the cake with a fork.

  11. Pour the milk mixture over the cake and let it soak in for at least 30 minutes or overnight in the refrigerator.

  12. Before serving, top with whipped cream and fruit if desired.
