  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • ½ cup water
  • 4 large tomatoes, peeled, quartered
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp salt, seasoned
  • dash pepper


  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the tomatoes, sugar, butter, seasoned salt, and pepper.

  2. Cover and bring to boil, stirring frequently.

  3. In a smaller saucepan, combine cornstarch and water, mix until smooth.

  4. Stir into the tomato mixture.

  5. Cover and cook five minutes longer or until thickened and bubbly.

Recipe Notes

Note: This is a basic recipe. Sugar, salt, and cornstarch (a thickening agent) can all be adjusted for taste and thickness. Some cooks also add pieces of bread to the mixture while cooking.
