Serves:
Ingredients
- 1 lb flank steak
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 4 slices provolone cheese
- 4 ciabatta rolls, sliced
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
-
Season the flank steak with salt and pepper on both sides.
-
In a large skillet over medium heat, heat 1 tbsp of olive oil. Add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 10 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.
-
In the same skillet, heat another tbsp of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the flank steak and cook for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness. Remove from skillet and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.
-
While the steak is resting, toast the ciabatta rolls in a toaster or in the oven.
-
Slice the flank steak against the grain into thin strips.
-
Assemble the sandwiches by placing a slice of provolone cheese on the bottom half of each ciabatta roll. Top with a generous amount of caramelized onions and the sliced steak. Place the top half of the roll on the sandwich.
-
Optionally, you can wrap the sandwiches in foil and warm them in the oven for a few minutes to melt the cheese.
-
Serve the steak sandwiches warm and enjoy!
