Ingredients

  • 1 lb steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 slices of provolone cheese
  • 4 ciabatta rolls
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • garlic aioli:
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a skillet, heat 1 tbsp of olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until caramelized, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

  2. Season the steak with salt and pepper. In the same skillet, heat the remaining olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the steak and cook until browned and cooked to desired doneness, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove from heat and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.

  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, minced garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper to make the garlic aioli.

  4. Slice the ciabatta rolls in half and spread the garlic aioli on both sides. Layer the sliced steak, caramelized onions, and provolone cheese on one side of the rolls. Top with the other half of the roll.

  5. Preheat a panini press or a grill pan over medium heat. Place the sandwiches in the press or pan and cook until the bread is toasted and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes.

  6. Remove from heat and serve the steak sandwiches hot.
