Ingredients

  • 2 cups of basmati rice
  • 1 tablespoon of oil
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 4 cups of water
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear.

  2. Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.

  3. Add the rinsed rice, turmeric powder, and salt to the pan. Stir well to coat the rice with the spices.

  4. Pour in the water and bring it to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover the pan, and let it simmer for 12-15 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the water is absorbed.

  5. Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
