Ingredients

  • 1 pound elbow macaroni
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 4 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

  2. Cook macaroni according to package directions; drain and set aside.

  3. In a separate pot, melt butter over medium heat.

  4. Whisk in flour and continue to whisk for 1-2 minutes until mixture is smooth and bubbly.

  5. Gradually whisk in milk, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until mixture is smooth.

  6. Cook, whisking constantly, until mixture comes to a boil and thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

  7. Remove sauce from heat and stir in 1 1/2 cups of cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.

  8. Add cooked macaroni to cheese sauce and stir until well coated.

  9. Pour into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish and sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese on top.

  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown on top.
