Preparation: 15 minutes
Cooking: 15 minutes
Total: 30 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup dark chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Your choice of gelato flavors for filling (e.g. chocolate, vanilla, strawberry)

Instructions

  1. In a food processor, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the cold butter and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the eggs and vanilla extract. Gradually add the egg mixture to the food processor and pulse until the dough comes together.

  3. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out the dough into a thin circle and cut out 4 equal-sized triangles.

  5. Shape each triangle into a cone and press the edges to seal. Place the cones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

  6. While the cones are cooling, prepare the gelato filling. In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.

  7. In a separate microwavable bowl, melt the chocolate chips and vegetable oil until smooth. Dip the top of each cooled cone into the melted chocolate, allowing any excess to drip off, and place on a cooling rack to set.

  8. Fill each cone with your desired gelato flavor using a small spoon or piping bag. Top with additional melted chocolate, nuts, or sprinkles if desired.

  9. Serve immediately or freeze for later enjoyment!
