Serves:
Ingredients
- 1 package of phyllo pastry sheets
- 1 cup of melted butter
- 1 cup of finely chopped walnuts
- 1 cup of finely chopped dark chocolate
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1 cup of water
- 1/2 cup of honey
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
Lay one sheet of phyllo pastry in the baking dish and brush with butter. Repeat this step with half of the phyllo sheets.
-
In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped walnuts, dark chocolate, cinnamon, and salt. Mix well.
-
Spread half of the nut and chocolate mixture evenly over the phyllo sheets in the baking dish.
-
Layer the remaining phyllo sheets, brushing each sheet with butter.
-
Spread the remaining nut and chocolate mixture over the top layer of phyllo sheets.
-
Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into small diamond or square shapes.
-
Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
-
While the baklava is baking, prepare the honey syrup. In a saucepan, combine the sugar, water, honey, and vanilla extract. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
-
Remove the baklava from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup over it.
-
Allow the baklava to cool completely before serving. This will allow it to absorb the syrup and become extra moist and flavorful.
