Serves:
Ingredients
- 1 package of phyllo dough
- 1 cup of chopped nuts (such as walnuts or pistachios)
- 1/2 cup of melted butter
- 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup of honey
- 1/4 cup of water
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
-
In a bowl, combine the chopped nuts, sugar, and cinnamon. Mix well.
-
Place a sheet of phyllo dough in the baking dish and brush with melted butter. Repeat with several more layers of phyllo dough and butter.
-
Spread a layer of the nut mixture evenly over the phyllo dough.
-
Add more layers of phyllo dough and butter, repeating the process until all the nut mixture is used.
-
Finish with a few more layers of phyllo dough and butter on top.
-
Using a sharp knife, carefully cut the baklava into squares or diamond shapes.
-
Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, or until the baklava is golden brown and crispy.
-
While the baklava is baking, make the syrup by combining the honey, water, and lemon juice in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer for 5 minutes.
-
Remove the baklava from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup over it, allowing it to soak into the layers.
-
Let the baklava cool completely before serving. It can be stored in an airtight container for several days.
