Preparation: 30 minutes
Cooking: 40 minutes
Total: 70 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 package of phyllo dough
  • 1 cup of chopped nuts (such as walnuts or pistachios)
  • 1/2 cup of melted butter
  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup of honey
  • 1/4 cup of water
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish with butter or cooking spray.

  2. In a bowl, combine the chopped nuts, sugar, and cinnamon. Mix well.

  3. Place a sheet of phyllo dough in the baking dish and brush with melted butter. Repeat with several more layers of phyllo dough and butter.

  4. Spread a layer of the nut mixture evenly over the phyllo dough.

  5. Add more layers of phyllo dough and butter, repeating the process until all the nut mixture is used.

  6. Finish with a few more layers of phyllo dough and butter on top.

  7. Using a sharp knife, carefully cut the baklava into squares or diamond shapes.

  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, or until the baklava is golden brown and crispy.

  9. While the baklava is baking, make the syrup by combining the honey, water, and lemon juice in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer for 5 minutes.

  10. Remove the baklava from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup over it, allowing it to soak into the layers.

  11. Let the baklava cool completely before serving. It can be stored in an airtight container for several days.
