How To Make Baklava with Spiced Nuts, Ricotta & Chocolate

Ingredients
- 1 cup mixed nuts (such as pistachios, walnuts, and almonds), finely chopped
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 12 sheets phyllo pastry
- 1 1/2 cups ricotta cheese
- 1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup water
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a bowl, combine the chopped nuts, granulated sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Mix well and set aside.

Place a sheet of phyllo pastry in the baking dish and brush with melted butter. Repeat with 5 more sheets of phyllo, brushing each layer with butter.

Sprinkle half of the spiced nut mixture evenly over the phyllo.

Place another sheet of phyllo on top of the nut mixture and brush with butter. Repeat with 5 more sheets of phyllo, brushing each layer with butter.

Spread the ricotta cheese evenly over the phyllo.

Sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the ricotta.

Place another sheet of phyllo on top of the chocolate chips and brush with butter. Repeat with 5 more sheets of phyllo, brushing each layer with butter.

Sprinkle the remaining spiced nut mixture evenly over the phyllo.

Place another sheet of phyllo on top of the nut mixture and brush with butter. Repeat with 5 more sheets of phyllo, brushing each layer with butter.

Cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes using a sharp knife.

In a small saucepan, heat the honey and water over low heat until the honey dissolves.

Pour the honey mixture evenly over the baklava.

Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.

Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely.

Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
