How To Make Lebanese Baklava Recipe

A sweet pastry made with phyllo dough, butter, nuts, and sweet syrup.

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 package of phyllo dough
  • 1 cup of melted butter
  • 2 cups of chopped mixed nuts (walnuts, pistachios, almonds)
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon of rosewater

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

  2. Combine chopped nuts and sugar in a bowl, mix well.

  3. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with melted butter.

  4. Layer 5 sheets of phyllo dough in the dish, brushing each layer with melted butter.

  5. Spread half of the nut mixture on top of the phyllo dough.

  6. Layer 5 more sheets of phyllo dough on top of the nuts, brushing each layer with melted butter.

  7. Add the remaining nut mixture on top of the phyllo dough.

  8. Layer 5 more sheets of phyllo dough on top of the nuts, brushing each layer with melted butter.

  9. Cut the baklava into diamond-shaped pieces using a sharp knife.

  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.

  11. While the baklava is baking, prepare the syrup by combining water, sugar, and lemon juice in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and stir until sugar is dissolved.

  12. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes, stir in rosewater and remove from heat.

  13. Once the baklava is done, immediately pour the syrup over the hot baklava.

  14. Allow baklava to cool completely before serving.
