Serves:
Ingredients
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 tablespoon rosewater
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Food coloring (optional)
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
-
In a saucepan, combine sugar and water. Cook over medium heat until sugar is dissolved, stirring occasionally.
-
In a separate bowl, mix together cornstarch and cream of tartar. Gradually add this mixture to the sugar syrup, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
-
Cook the mixture over low heat, stirring continuously, until it thickens and starts to pull away from the sides of the pan.
-
Remove from heat and stir in rosewater and lemon juice. Add food coloring if desired.
-
Pour the mixture into a greased and parchment-lined baking pan. Smooth the surface with a spatula and let it cool at room temperature for at least 2 hours, or until set.
-
Once set, remove the Turkish Delight from the pan and cut into bite-sized pieces. Dust with powdered sugar to prevent sticking.
-
Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
