How To Make Seared Steak with Celery & Pepper Caponata

  • 4 steaks (1-inch thick)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 1 red or yellow bell pepper, diced
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon capers
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish


  1. Season the steaks with salt and pepper on both sides.

  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steaks and cook for 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness. Remove from the skillet and let them rest for a few minutes.

  3. In the same skillet, heat the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Add the celery, bell pepper, onion, and minced garlic. Sauté until the vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes.

  4. Stir in the capers, red wine vinegar, and sugar. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.

  5. Slice the steaks against the grain and serve with the celery and pepper caponata. Garnish with fresh parsley.
