How To Make Easy Bean and Cheese Pupusas

Make the national dish of El Salvador with this pupusas recipe. The cornmeal dough is filled with creamy mozzarella and refried beans.

Ingredients

  • 3cupsmasa harina corn flour
  • cupswarm water
  • 1tspsalt
  • 1cuprefried beans
  • 2cupsmozzarella cheese,shredded

Instructions

  1. Preheat a non stick skillet to medium high heat. In a medium sized bowl combine corn flour, water, and salt to form a dough.

  2. Scoop out a large 3 inch ball of dough. Flatten the dough and put 1 tablespoon refried beans and sprinkle with cheese.

  3. Fold the ends up together to enclose the beans and cheese. Flatten to ¼ inch thick.

  4. Place in a skillet and cook each side for 3 to 5 minutes until golden brown. Serve with coleslaw, salsa, or desired side dish.
