Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried Italian herbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 8 oz penne pasta
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, garlic powder, Italian herbs, salt, pepper, and egg. Mix well until combined.

  3. Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.

  4. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, and cook until softened.

  5. Add the crushed tomatoes, sugar, dried basil, and dried oregano to the skillet. Stir well and bring to a simmer.

  6. Gently place the meatballs into the simmering sauce. Cook for 10 minutes, turning occasionally.

  7. Meanwhile, cook the penne pasta according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

  8. Transfer the meatballs and sauce into a baking dish. Spread the cooked penne pasta evenly over the top.

  9. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the pasta.

  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  11. Serve hot and enjoy!
