Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 1/4 cup fresh sage leaves, chopped
  • 1/2 cup Gruyere cheese, shredded
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.

  3. Add the cubed butter and work it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. Mix in the chopped sage and shredded Gruyere cheese.

  5. Stir in the buttermilk until the dough comes together.

  6. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead lightly.

  7. Pat the dough to 3/4 inch thickness and cut out biscuits.

  8. Place the biscuits onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 18-20 minutes or until golden brown.

  9. Serve warm with butter.
