How To Make Vegan Bread Sauce
A creamy and flavorful sauce made with bread, perfect for serving with vegan roasts or holiday meals.
Serves:
Ingredients
- 2 cups of unsweetened plant-based milk
- 2 slices of stale bread, torn into small pieces
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 bay leaf
- 1/4 tsp of ground nutmeg
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
-
Heat a saucepan over medium heat and add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
-
Add the torn bread, plant-based milk, bay leaf, nutmeg, salt, and pepper to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.
-
Simmer the sauce over low heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the bread has absorbed the milk and the sauce has thickened.
-
Remove the bay leaf from the sauce and blend it with an immersion blender or in a regular blender until smooth and creamy.
-
Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. Serve warm with vegan roasts or holiday meals.
