How To Make Vegan Bread Sauce

A creamy and flavorful sauce made with bread, perfect for serving with vegan roasts or holiday meals.

Preparation: 5 minutes
Cooking: 15 minutes
Total: 20 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of unsweetened plant-based milk
  • 2 slices of stale bread, torn into small pieces
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/4 tsp of ground nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat a saucepan over medium heat and add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

  2. Add the torn bread, plant-based milk, bay leaf, nutmeg, salt, and pepper to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.

  3. Simmer the sauce over low heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the bread has absorbed the milk and the sauce has thickened.

  4. Remove the bay leaf from the sauce and blend it with an immersion blender or in a regular blender until smooth and creamy.

  5. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. Serve warm with vegan roasts or holiday meals.
