How To Make Crispy Fried Calamari & Aïoli

Delicious and crispy fried calamari served with tangy aïoli sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound calamari, cleaned and sliced into rings
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together flour, paprika, garlic powder, and salt.

  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, minced garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper to make the aïoli sauce. Set aside.

  3. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).

  4. Dip calamari rings into the flour mixture, then shake off any excess.

  5. Fry the calamari in batches for about 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

  6. Serve the crispy fried calamari with the aïoli sauce on the side.
