How To Make Chocolate Eggnog

Preparation: 10 minutes
Cooking: 5 minutes
Total: 15 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 4 cups of milk
  • 4 ounces of semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1/3 cup of granulated sugar
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • Whipped cream, for garnish
  • Ground cinnamon, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it begins to steam. Do not let it boil.

  2. Add the chopped chocolate and sugar to the saucepan, stirring until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth.

  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks. Slowly pour about 1/2 cup of the hot chocolate mixture into the egg yolks, whisking constantly to temper the yolks.

  4. Pour the tempered egg yolk mixture back into the saucepan with the remaining chocolate mixture. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens slightly and coats the back of a spoon, about 5 minutes.

  5. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and nutmeg.

  6. Pour the eggnog into mugs or glasses and let it cool. Once cooled, refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until chilled.

  7. Before serving, garnish each glass with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkle of ground cinnamon.

  8. Enjoy your delicious homemade chocolate eggnog!
