Ingredients

  • 1 pre-made pie crust
  • 3 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1/2 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. Roll out the pie crust and press into a tart pan. Set aside.

  3. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 20 minutes.

  4. Stir in the sugar and thyme, and continue cooking for another 5 minutes.

  5. Spread the caramelized onions evenly over the pie crust. Sprinkle shredded Gruyere cheese on top.

  6. In a small bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, salt, and pepper. Pour the mixture over the onions and cheese.

  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the tart is golden brown and set.

  8. Allow the tart to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
