How To Make Old-Fashioned Apple Dumplings

Ingredients
- 2 Granny Smith apples, peeled and cored
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 package refrigerated pie crusts
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- Vanilla ice cream, for serving (optional)
Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish and set aside.

In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Roll out the pie crusts and cut them into 4 squares.

Place an apple in the center of each square and fill the cavity with the brown sugar mixture. Top with a cube of butter.

Fold the corners of the pie crust up and over the apple, pinching the edges to seal. Place the dumplings in the prepared baking dish.

In a small saucepan, combine the water, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Bring to a boil, then pour the syrup over the dumplings.

Bake for 40 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and the apples are tender.
