  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup milk

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, combine the chicken, chicken broth, carrots, celery, onion, garlic, bay leaf, dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 45 minutes to 1 hour, until the chicken is cooked through and tender.

  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the milk until just combined.

  3. Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling batter onto the simmering chicken and broth mixture. Cover and let simmer for 15-20 minutes, until the dumplings are cooked through and fluffy.

  4. Remove the bay leaf from the pot and season with additional salt and pepper, if needed. Serve the chicken and slick dumplings hot.
