Ingredients

  • 1 cup of rye flour
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1/4 cup of melted butter
  • 1/2 cup of cooked rice
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the rye flour, water, and melted butter. Knead until the dough is smooth.

  2. Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and roll each portion into a thin oval shape.

  3. In a separate bowl, mix the cooked rice, milk, and salt to create the filling.

  4. Place a spoonful of the rice filling in the center of each dough oval.

  5. Fold the sides of the dough over the filling, leaving the center exposed.

  6. Place the pies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.

  7. Serve the Karelian Pies warm with a dollop of butter on top.
