How To Make Heart Cookies Decorated with Royal Icing

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Add the egg and vanilla extract, and beat until well combined.

Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing well after each addition, until a dough forms.

Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.

Cut out heart shapes using a cookie cutter and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Allow the cookies to cool completely before decorating with royal icing.

Royal icing recipe:

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, egg white, and lemon juice until smooth and glossy.
