- ½cupwhite sugar
- ½cupbutter
- 1egg
- 1cupunsulphured molasses
- 2½cupsall-purpose flour
- 1½tspbaking soda
- 2tspground cinnamon
- 2tspground ginger
- 1tspground cloves
- ½tspsalt
- ½cupapplesauce,optional
- 1cuphot water
Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter and flour or use baking spray on a 9 inch square pan.

In a stand mixer, cream together the sugar and butter until lightened in color and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then mix in the molasses until fully combined.

Add in the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves until just combined. With a whisk, add in the hot water and applesauce.

Bake for 40 to 45 minutes in the preheated oven.
