Ingredients

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup besan (chickpea flour)
  • 1/4 cup rice flour
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Water (as needed)
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine besan, rice flour, turmeric powder, chili powder, cumin seeds, baking powder, and salt.

  2. Gradually add water to make a thick batter. The batter should coat the back of a spoon without running off.

  3. Add sliced onions to the batter and mix well until the onions are coated.

  4. Heat oil in a deep pan or kadai over medium heat.

  5. Drop spoonfuls of the onion batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy. Flip them halfway for even frying.

  6. Remove the bhajis from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain excess oil on a paper towel.

  7. Serve hot with mint chutney or ketchup.
