Preparation: 10 minutes
Cooking: 20 minutes
Total: 30 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup chickpea flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Oil for greasing

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a baking sheet with oil.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced onions, chickpea flour, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, chili powder, salt, and water. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly coated and a thick batter is formed.

  3. Take small portions of the batter and shape them into round discs or small patties using your hands. Place them on the greased baking sheet, leaving some space between each bhaji.

  4. Lightly brush the tops of the bhajis with a little oil. This will help them crisp up nicely in the oven.

  5. Bake the onion bhajis in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy.

  6. Once baked, remove from the oven and allow them to cool slightly before serving.

  7. Serve the baked onion bhajis hot with your favorite chutney or dipping sauce.
