Ingredients

  • 500g ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon curry powder
  • 2 teaspoons turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 slices of bread, soaked in milk
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons apricot jam
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 2 eggs
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • olive oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

  2. In a large pan, heat olive oil and sauté the onions and garlic until translucent.

  3. Add the ground beef and cook until browned. Drain any excess fat.

  4. Stir in the curry powder, turmeric powder, cumin, coriander, and cinnamon. Cook for another minute.

  5. Remove the pan from heat and add the soaked bread (squeezed of excess milk). Mix well.

  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, apricot jam, vinegar, and brown sugar.

  7. Stir the egg mixture into the beef mixture. Add the raisins and season with salt and pepper.

  8. Pour the mixture into a baking dish and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden and set.

  9. Serve hot with yellow rice and chutney.
