Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 slices of bread, soaked in milk
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 2 tbsp curry powder
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tbsp apricot jam
  • 1 tbsp white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup almonds, slivered
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add onions and garlic, sauté until softened.

  3. Add ground beef or lamb to the skillet, cook until browned. Drain excess fat.

  4. Remove the soaked bread from milk, squeeze out excess liquid and add it to the skillet with meat.

  5. Stir in raisins, curry powder, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, apricot jam, vinegar, and salt and pepper. Cook for 5 minutes.

  6. Transfer the meat mixture to a baking dish and spread it evenly.

  7. In a bowl, beat eggs and milk together. Pour over the meat mixture.

  8. Sprinkle slivered almonds on top.

  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the custard is set and golden brown on top.

  10. Serve hot with fluffy rice and chutney.
