How To Make Classic Marinara Sauce Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.

  2. Add onion and sauté until softened and translucent, about 5 minutes.

  3. Add garlic and sauté for another minute.

  4. Add crushed tomatoes, dried basil, dried oregano, bay leaves, salt and black pepper.

  5. Allow the sauce to come to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and let it simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  6. Once the sauce has thickened and the flavors have melded together, remove bay leaves.

  7. Allow the sauce to cool slightly before serving.
